NEWS FROM THE COUNCILS
  • Weymouth Council (183)
    • We are sad to say that Brother Les Webb died on January 25th. His Requiem Mass & funeral will be held at St Josephs Church, Stavordale Road, Weymouth on Friday 4th February 2011.
    • Youth day 2011 - 7 names of young people to attend the event in Madrid next year have been been submitted to Head Office, hoping that they will benefit from the fund put aside to help young people with their expenses.
    • Christmas Lunch - 48 people attended and enjoyed our annual event at the Queens Hotel, among those attending were Michael Gallagher, PGK, who presented Brother Bernard Foxall with a certificate for his long service and contribution to the KSC since joining in 1960, and Paul Carey. The raffle raised £159, and a cheque for £100 was presented to Jo Cassidy for the Brother Lionel fund. It was nice to see 5 widows in attendance.As usual thanks to Rob Weston for organising the event, and providing the cabaret.
    • Christmas Posters- have been distributed to all parishes in the Bournemouth and New Forest area.
    • Carol Service - Some of our members will be attending the carol service at the Royal Bournemouth hospital where the crib supplied by our Council some years ago will be on display in the atrium.

    • Our Christmas Dinner was well attended and cheques earned by our Sponsored Walk were presented to representatives of the Farnborough Food Bank and Vision Aid Overseas. I offer my thanks to Maurice McSharry, Ray Cookson, Ray Harden, Alma McSharry and Sue Brennan who made the evening go so well. Our special guests have written to say how much they enjoyed the evening and thank us collectively for the cheques we gave them.

    • Welfare:
      • Former Brother Joseph Plewka died on 18th December, he was no longer a member of our council, but Joseph served us for many years.
      • Please pray for Bro Bill Davey’s wife, Carmelita who is making slow but steady progress, Bro John O'Brien who is currently in Poole Hospital, Bro John Smith who suffered a few mini strokes before Christmas, Bro George Dooley, Bro Tony Giodarno’s wife Leslie, Bro Tony Marston, also Anne Kane one of our widows and Bro Nino’s Father in law.
    • Membership: -
      • We are waiting to hear back from Fr Dylan to arrange a suitable date for our presentation evening in Shaftsbury for the 18 men who showed an interest in forming a council in North Dorset. I ask as many Officers as possible to attend this event and to be available to answer questions pertaining to their role in the Knights Council.
      • This year we will be undertaking recruitment drives in our own 4 parishes and the surrounding areas.
    • Action & Youth: -
      • Bro Peter has called a meeting to discuss Action agenda for the next year.
      • We have received more Christmas card entries than normal this year; all entries have to be at Province next month.
      • The crib was displayed in the Chapel in Poole Hospital, our thanks go to Deacon Declan for facilitating the crib for us this year;
      • We are at the early stages of planning for our Annual pilgrimage to Glastonbury which will be on Sunday 10th July, only 6 months away!
